MPP Temporary & Regular Appointments

To hire on an Emergency Basis, the Hiring Department needs to provide the Human Resources Department
with:
- A Hiring Memo recommending the candidate for hire
- The Memo needs to be approved by the appropriate Area Administrator
- A completed Employment Application
- The Memorandum must include:
- The Individual's Name,
- Effective Date & Expected End Date,
- Desired Salary/Hourly Rate,
- Classification, and
- A short Job Description including qualifications
Emergency appointments can be up to:
- 180 days for CSUEU classifications
- 60 days for APC classifications

Departments can hire on a Long-Term Temporary basis for 12-Month Appointments at a time. Departments
can post the position through the regular recruitment process, or hire from the pools of qualified
candidates for certain classifications.
To hire on a long-term temporary basis, the Hiring Department needs to:
- Provide the Human Resources Department with a Staff/Administrative Requisition Form and indicate whether they are hiring from the pool or if they want to post for a regular recruitment. The Staff/Administrative Requisition Form needs to include:
- Classification Title
- Job Code & Range
- Time Base
- Work Schedule
- Salary Range
- Department Name & Dept. ID
- Pay Plan
- Employment Status (provide anticipated Expiration Date)
- Funding Source (HR Account Code): Dept. ID, Fund, Account, Class, Program & Unit
- Dept. ID for Physical Location (if different from Funding Dept. ID)
- A Position Description including job duties and qualifications
- Conduct Interviews (refer to Interviewing Process)
- Select a candidate from the interviews
- Submit a Hiring Memo recommending the candidate for hire.
- The Memo needs to be approved by the appropriate Area Administrator or designee.
- The Memo must include:
- o Candidate's Name,
- o Effective Date,
- o Expected End Date, and
- o Desired Salary.

To hire for Permanent Staff Positions, departments can post the position through the regular
recruitment process, or hire from the pools of qualified candidates for certain classifications.
To hire for Permanent Staff Positions, the Hiring Department needs to:

Departments can hire for MPP Positions on a Temporary or Regular basis. MPP positions do not need to
be advertised through the regular recruitment process.
