FILE REQUIREMENTS
Duplicating now has a full PDF workflow!
Duplicating now requires all files to be in a properly formatted PDF file. Please set your PDF software to PDF/X-1a settings and to embed all the fonts.
Duplicating recommends that your jobs be created whenever possible in Adobe's Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.). Microsoft Office is not recommended, however if this is your only option, the document must be converted to PDF before submission. Ask your department's IT representative to install Office 2007 and it's special PDF add-in to make this easier on yourself. More information on campus licenses can be found at the Professional Development web site. If you lack the tools or resources for professional software, the following free open source software may help (all of which can save as a PDF):
- Open Office - An equivalent to Microsoft's Office, this is a well respected office productivity suite, complete with a word processor.
- Gimp - This photo editing software is equivalent to Adobe Photoshop. It is very useful in manipulating raster images.
- Inkscape - A cross between Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand, this program is a vector image editing program, with the capabliltiy to encorporate text and raster images into large layouts. It is particularly useful for creating large posters and banners.
Variable Data Printing
If you are submitting a data merge job, along with the PDF you need to include the merge data in a MS Excel file, with all data presorted, and organized into columns with a title in the first row. Combine both in a ZIP file for submission (In Windows XP, select all the files, right-click, then select "Send To", then "Compressed (zipped) Folder").
CD and DVD images
CD and DVD images may be submitted via the website in .ISO format. Our system can handle ISO 9660, Joliet, and UDF file systems (as well as combination systems). Audio and Video discs (Audio CD, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Mini-DVD, etc.) should come properly formatted and ready to burn. We do not have the resources to append discs or their menu systems. If you are submitting a black label to be printed on the disks, combine the PDF and the ISO into one ZIP file for submission (In Windows XP, select all the files, right-click, then select "Send To", then "Compressed (zipped) Folder").
