University Police Patrol Divison

The patrol division functions with four patrol teams, each with a sergeant that patrols the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patrol officers are responsible for a wide variety of functions, including the primary law enforcement duties for the campus. This includes responding to all 911 calls for police services, medical emergencies or public assists, and supporting large campus events.

Authority

The CSUSB Police Department is empowered pursuant to section 830.2 (c) of the California Penal Code and fully subscribes to the standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). CSUSB Police Officers have peace officer authority anywhere in the State of California. They receive the same basic training as city and county peace officers throughout the state, plus additional training to meet the unique needs of a campus environment. The department handles all patrol, investigation, crime prevention education, and related law enforcement duties for the campus community and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The CSUSB Police Department works closely with the City of San Bernardino Police Department and the San Bernardino City Unified School District Police Department.

Jurisdiction

The primary jurisdiction of the CSUSB Police Department is the University campus and one mile surrounding the campus, as indicated in the California Education Code section 89560.
